Tithes & Offering

What does it mean to tithe and how is it different from giving an offering?

The word, "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. A tithe is the first 10% of your income. An offering is anything you give above and beyond the 10%.

Why do we tithe?

The Bible tells us that the purpose of tithing is to teach you to always to put God first in your lives. (Deuteronomy 14:23 NKJV) Tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have. It is also God's personal invitation to an outpouring of His blessing in your life.

In Malachi 3:10 (NKJV), God says this: "Bring all the tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And try me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it." This is the only place in Scripture where God tells us to put Him to the test.

Is God wise? Do you trust Him?

These are two fundamental questions behind the act of giving. If God is wise, then you should listen to what He says about financial stewardship. If you trust Him, then you should trust Him with all aspects of your life, including your finances. So go ahead. Accept God's invitation to put Him to the test. Start tithing faithfully and watch what He does in and through your life.

How Do I Become a Member of the Union Baptist Church Family?

To become a member of Union Baptist Church, you may join in one of four ways.

If you have never been baptized but have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you may join as a candidate for baptism.

If you are a former member of Union Baptist Church and you wish to rejoin, you may reinstate your membership.

If you are a former member of another Baptist Church and have a letter of introduction from that church, you may join by letter.

If you have been baptized but have no church affiliation or letter of introduction, you may join under your Christian Experience.

In each case, you may start the process of becoming a member of Union Baptist Church by:

1) Coming forward when the Pastor extends the invitation to discipleship at the conclusion of a worship or other service

2) Completing and submitting the New Member Registration Form.

If you come forward when the Pastor extends the invitation to discipleship, a member of the New Members ministry will pray with you, collect some information, and provide you with details on the next steps. If you complete and submit the New Member Registration Form, a representative from the New Members ministry will contact you in the manner that you prefer.

All candidates for membership are required to attend our 3-hour Discipleship class. Candidates who have been baptized at either Union Baptist Church or another Baptist church and who have completed the Discipleship class are eligible to receive the Right Hand of Fellowship.

We will provide further information concerning Baptism and the Right Hand of Fellowship during the Discipleship Class.

How can I get baptized?

Baptism is for those who can articulate, and whose lives demonstrate, saving faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. On the profession of your faith and belief that Jesus Christ died for your sins and you want to be saved, a minister will meet with you to discuss the baptism process in detail.

How can I get further involved in one or more of the ministries of Union Baptist Church?

By speaking with  one of Union’s Staff Ministers who can assist you in finding the ministries that best fits who you are and where you are spiritually.
