{"id":1623,"date":"2025-04-27T17:26:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T17:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unionbaptistwp.org\/?post_type=sermon&#038;p=1623"},"modified":"2025-05-16T18:04:51","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T18:04:51","slug":"holy-spirit-promise-power-purpose","status":"publish","type":"sermon","link":"https:\/\/www.unionbaptistwp.org\/staging\/sermon\/holy-spirit-promise-power-purpose\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy Spirit: Promise, Power, Purpose"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acts 1:1-11 | NKJV<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prologue<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong>&nbsp;The former account I made, O&nbsp;Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,&nbsp;<sup><strong>2<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>until the day in which&nbsp;<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts%201%3A1-11&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-26926a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit&nbsp;had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,&nbsp;<sup><strong>3<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many&nbsp;<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts%201%3A1-11&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-26927b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Holy Spirit Promised<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><sup><strong>4<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>And being assembled together with&nbsp;<em>them,<\/em>&nbsp;He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father,&nbsp;\u201cwhich,\u201d&nbsp;<em>He said,<\/em>&nbsp;\u201cyou have&nbsp;heard from Me;&nbsp;<sup><strong>5<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>for John truly baptized with water,&nbsp;but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.\u201d&nbsp;<sup><strong>6<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, \u201cLord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?\u201d&nbsp;<sup><strong>7<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>And He said to them,&nbsp;\u201cIt is not for you to&nbsp;know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.&nbsp;<sup><strong>8<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>But you shall receive power&nbsp;when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and&nbsp;you shall be&nbsp;<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts%201%3A1-11&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-26932c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup>witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and&nbsp;Samaria, and to the&nbsp;end of the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Ascends to Heaven<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><sup><strong>9<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched,&nbsp;He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.&nbsp;<sup><strong>10<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them&nbsp;in white apparel,&nbsp;<sup><strong>11<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/sup>who also said, \u201cMen of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven?
