COMPASSIONATE COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS
Union Baptist Church’s Christian Care & Counseling Ministry is dedicated to offering confidential, compassionate support to individuals and families within our church and the broader community. Rooted in faith and guided by professional standards, we provide pastoral care, brief counseling, spiritual and mental health assessments, and referrals for mental health and substance use treatment.
We also host mental health education forums such as Soul Shop (focused on suicide awareness and prevention) and Mental Health First Aid, equipping our community with tools to care for themselves and others.
STEPHEN MINISTRY CARE
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers CONFIDENTIALITY serve and support the Union Baptist Church members and community. This is done by walking alongside, caring about, encouraging, and providing emotional/spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time.
Our mission is to:
• To build a Union Baptist Church Stephen Ministry based on a biblically strong foundation.
• To support Pastor Williams with a team of gifted, trained, and committed lay caregivers ready to minister to hurting people.
• To augment existing ministries by working cooperatively and collaboratively in meeting the needs of God’s people
• To build up the universal Body of Christ AND reach unbeliever or unchurched through one-to-one distinctively Christ-Like confidential compassionate care when they are going through challenges and life changing situations.
You can learn more about becoming a Stephen Minister or receiving the care of a Stephen Minister by visiting www.ubcstephenministry.com or contact the Minister of Christian Care & Counseling at Christiancounseling@unionBaptistwp.org or call 914-948-6439 extension 207.
CONFIDENTIAL CARE
Our 3C Model of Confidential Care
Our approach is grounded in the “3C” model, which emphasizes:
- Competence
We connect individuals with the appropriate level of care. This may include:
- Referrals to licensed mental health professionals
- Stephen Ministry support
- Pastoral Counseling
All referrals are prayerfully and thoughtfully made to ensure high-quality, faith-affirming care.
- Cost-Effectiveness
We understand that financial concerns can be a barrier to care. When possible, we:
- Identify providers who accept insurance or offer sliding scale fees
- Provide connections to free or pro bono services
- Explore options that fit within the individual’s means
- Consistency
We consider the unique values and needs of each individual. Whenever possible, we aim to align referrals with:
- Faith-based values
- Preferences related to provider gender, cultural background, and other important considerations
We aim to foster relationships built on trust, safety, and shared understanding.
CRISIS
In Crisis?
If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening emergency or a mental health crisis, please contact emergency professionals:
- Call 911
- Call or text 988 Lifeline
- Text 741741 for the Crisis Text Line
Trained professionals are available anytime, day or night, to help at the numbers above.
